Compac sorting systems are ideal for handling Avocados, with the latest technology now available for grading by quality as well as size.
Many packhouses throughout New Zealand, Australia and more recently Chile are using Compac graders for sizing and grading Avocados. In all cases, these locations perform well above expectations for this non-uniformed shaped fruit. For many sites, Avocados are not the only fruit packed on the one packing line. Other fruit such as Kiwifruit, Citrus or Tomatoes are packed on the same line, without mechanical modification.
Varieties including Haas are commonly processed at standard production speeds of up to 10 fruit per second. Some Avocado varieties that are traditionally difficult to handle (long neck varieties) can be processed at lower throughput rates.
Avocados are accurately sized by individual fruit weight and counted into trays, cartons or other packaging. Compac sorters can be configured to pack avocados using efficient tray filling belts, hand placement systems, bin filling or volume loose filing systems to suit your market.
Recently, Avocados in New Zealand and Chile are being successfully graded by external quality using Compac InVision 9000 Blemish sorting technology. The majority of defects are removed prior to the sorting tables using a Compac pre-grader, reducing sorting staff numbers and improving the consistency of quality grading. Defects such as stains, marks, insect or animal damage, sunburn and ridging are being separated to local market, oil or reject grades automatically.
Compac packing systems combined with Compac sizer software can significantly reduce labor while maintaining optimum tray presentation. Ask us if this can be achieved for your packing facility.
