Compac Named Hi-Tech Exporter of the Year

This year Compac scooped up the International Business Wales Hi-Tech Exporter of the Year award at the annual New Zealand Hi-Tech Awards. This is a fantastic success for the Compac Team as we continue to build our reputation as a leading Hi-Tech Company.

What the Judges said: "Compac Sorting Equipment epitomises all the characteristics the judges were looking for in this category. It is succeeding in a very competitive global market and some of its current technology is achieving things that we could only imagine five years ago - and they are doing it in a harsh production environment. Compac Sorting Equipment is a great example for other NZ manufacturers. The international judges for this category made special comment that apart from the excellent technology, it is the scalability of this business that attracted them the most along with their ability to successfully manage offshore partnerships." - Source: 2010 New Zealand Hi-Tech Awards

Taste Technologies Completes First Install in South America

December 2009 saw Taste Tech install its first NIR into South America for sorting apples internally in Argentina which has been a great success and this looks to continue based on that initial site established at Frutas Pesce in Argentina. A recent trip to South America showed there is great interest in the use of NIR, and also a lot of talk around the Frutas Pesce installation, so we see this region as a strong growth area for NIR over the coming years.

Louis Pesce owner of Frutas Pesce said:  “ As I have learned, the NIR offers a great service to the industry here in Argentina to obtain the best of each batch. Our customers are prepared to use it for this reason and not to reject the bad apples which is also what we use the NIR for. The NIR´s performance is just fantastic! We have proved this in apples already and we realized that it is extremely necessary to obtain an ideal internal grading sort. We are now trialing pears for internal defects, so we hope we can say the same as for apples in a short time . In the whole we are more than happy with its results.”

New Product - LENZ Auto Repacker

It is estimated that around 20 – 30% of the annual kiwifruit harvest in New Zealand is repacked every year costing the industry tens of millions of dollars. The LENZ Automated Repacker is designed to reduce fruit loss due to repacking. As such it has the potential to maximise repacking outcomes

The LENZ Automatic Repacker is extremely gentle to minimise any potential damage to produce and incorporates minimal drop heights, soft rubber cups and automated carton refilling. The LENZ Automated Repacker ensures that only those fruit which really require touching by human hands are handled.

This consistently of the automation process increases production and reduces labour costs at the same time. During the 2010 repacking season in New Zealand the LENZ Automated Repacker reduced repacking costs by around 60% using a team of less than ten people.

The LENZ Automated Repacker can be easily transported as the machine easily collapses down into two parts so it can be moved easily through doorways and transported between sites.
